Boothbay Sea and Science Center founder and executive director, Pauline Dion, will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming monthly meeting of the Boothbay Region Garden Club. The event will take place on Wednesday, May 8 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church in Boothbay Harbor. This event is open to the public and refreshments will be available for attendees to enjoy.
The Boothbay Sea and Science Center (BSSC) is a community-based sea and science education center that offers accessible programs for youth between the ages of 5 and 17. Through activities like sailing, boating, and marine science, BSSC provides hands-on learning experiences that are not widely available through other organizations in the region.
BSSC offers a range of innovative education programs that focus on experiential learning. By working with marine businesses, schools, social service agencies, and marine research organizations, BSSC aims to provide pathways to careers in STEM fields while instilling lifelong skills in its students. One of BSSC’s key partners is Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, which plays a crucial role in program development.
Pauline Dion is an experienced nonprofit advocate who brings a unique perspective to her work with BSSC as its founder and executive director. With a background in nursing and a passion for sailing, Pauline has chaired fundraising efforts for various organizations and serves on the boards of several local nonprofits. Her experience as an adult oncology nurse has also given her valuable insights into working with diverse groups of people from different backgrounds.
