Tokyo’s Haneda Airport has been named the cleanest airport in the world according to the Skytrax World Airport Awards. The organization recognized Haneda for its exceptional cleanliness, including its floors, seating areas, public spaces, and restrooms. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, airport cleanliness has become a top priority for travelers worldwide, and airports that maintain high standards are highly regarded.
In addition to being named the cleanest airport in the world, Haneda was also ranked as the fourth best overall airport by Skytrax. The top 10 cleanest airports were dominated by Asia, with nine of them located in the region. Japan had four airports on the list, including Centrair Nagoya, Tokyo Narita, and Kansai. The top spots were rounded out by Seoul Incheon, Singapore Changi, Doha Hamad, Hong Kong and Taiwan Taoyuan.
Skytrax also recognized the top cleanest airport in each region around the world. Vancouver was named North America’s cleanest airport; Quito was South America’s; Juan Santamaría was Central America and Caribbean’s; Cape Town was Africa’s; Brisbane was Australia/Pacific’s; Shanghai Hongqiao was China’s; Baku was Central Asia’s; and Bangalore was India and South Asia’s. The overall winners also topped their regional categories: Tokyo Haneda in Asia, Zurich in Europe, and Doha Hamad in the Middle East.
