Illinois Congresswoman enthusiastic about the expanding “bio-economy”

Illinois Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski, who represents the 13th district, is thrilled about the growing “bio-economy” and the prospects it presents for Illinois corn and soybean growers. She recently spoke to reporters at the National Association of Farm Broadcasting’s Washington Watch about the development of a bioindustry that is based on crops grown in central and southern Illinois.

According to Budzinski, one key aspect of this growing bio-economy is the expansion of biofuels markets. She believes that biofuels can play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions while also supporting family farmers and growers in the state.

In addition to biofuels, Budzinski is hopeful about a potential “tech hub” designation for her district. She mentioned that her district is a finalist to be a tech hub in bioprocessing and fermentation, which could create new opportunities for family farmers in the area.

The final decision on the tech hub designation is expected in the summer, but Budzinski is already advocating for the Next Gen Fuels Act in Congress. She believes that a combination of public and private sector collaboration can lead to the creation of a new industry that will benefit family farmers in Illinois.
