Hamas considers Israel’s offer for a cease-fire in Gaza

Hamas, a recognized terrorist organization in both the US and the EU, is currently discussing Israel’s latest proposal for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. This news comes as Egypt intensifies its efforts to bring an end to months of conflict and prevent a potential Israeli attack on the southern city of Rafah, as reported by AP.

Khalil al-Haya, a senior Hamas official, confirmed that discussions were taking place but did not provide any details about the Israeli offer. He mentioned that it was a response to a proposal made by Hamas two weeks ago. Earlier negotiations between Egypt and Israel focused on a potential six-week cease-fire and the exchange of hostages, including the release of 40 civilians and sick individuals in return for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

However, despite calls for restraint from various sources including the US, Israel has remained adamant about its plans for a ground assault on Rafah due to its presence of Hamas militants in the area. Egypt has warned that such an attack could have severe humanitarian consequences for Gaza.

The situation remains fluid as negotiations continue between the parties involved. Despite this progress towards peace talks, tensions remain high with ongoing clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants in Gaza Strip.
