During the Fratelli d’Italia programmatic conference held in Pescara, Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, announced a significant project aimed at creating Italian technology involving small, medium, and large companies. The focus would be on the Mediterranean region, both geopolitically and in relation to energy and other sectors connected to defense. According to Folgiero, this project has great potential and will bring numerous benefits to Italy.
Folgiero highlighted the importance of Italy’s proximity to the Mediterranean sea. He said that the region is crucial geopolitically due to its vast network of submarine cables, telecommunication lines, gas pipelines, and critical infrastructures that require protection. Moreover, he noted that there is tremendous potential for economic and technological growth in the region due to its abundance of mining activities.
Fincantieri, a leading company in underwater expertise, plans to produce smaller submarines and drones ranging from three to nine meters. These will be utilized by the Italian Navy to safeguard critical infrastructures in the Mediterranean region. According to Folgiero, this initiative is an excellent opportunity for Italy to develop new technologies while also strengthening its position as a major player in European affairs.
