Sports performance/science department at Jets undergoes multiple changes

The Jets have announced that they will be retaining head coach Robert Saleh and General Manager Joe Douglas for the 2024 season, but there have been some changes made to their sports performance and sports science staff. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, director of high performance Brad DeWeese is no longer with the organization, along with assistant director of high performance Robert Sausaman and director of sports science Matt Sams who were hired under Saleh in 2021.

However, the team has made a new addition in Alexander Carnall as the sports science coordinator. There have been no new additions on the performance side of things. Cimini reports that the departures were not performance-based, but Douglas noted the team’s significant injuries along the offensive line in the last two seasons. To address this issue, the team acquired veteran tackles Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses in hopes of improving the line’s performance. Keeping these players healthy will be crucial for the team’s success in the upcoming 2024 season.
