Joint bid by US and Mexico for 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup withdrawn.

The US Soccer Federation and the Mexican Football Federation have announced their joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup has been withdrawn. Instead, they are focusing on a bid for the 2031 edition of the tournament with the goal of equal investment as the Men’s tournament to fully maximize the commercial potential of the women’s tournament.

With this withdrawal, only two bids remain to host the 2027 tournament – one from Brazil and a joint bid from Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany. The winning bid will be announced at the 74th FIFA Congress in May.

US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone stated that hosting a World Cup tournament is a huge undertaking and having additional time to prepare will maximize its impact globally. The shift in bidding will enable a record-breaking Women’s World Cup in 2031 to help grow and raise the level of the women’s game both domestically and internationally.

Despite this change in bidding plans, there will still be a congested calendar of international soccer competition in North America in the coming years. The FIFA Club World Cup will take place in 2025, co-hosted by Mexico, Canada, and Spain, followed by the FIFA Men’s World Cup in 2026, also co-hosted by Mexico and Canada. This will be followed by the summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
