The new Da Vinci Science Center in downtown Allentown is set to be a vibrant and colorful addition to the city thanks to the efforts of an artist from Bethlehem and hundreds of students. This week, about 300 students will come together to paint a mural that will be installed on the wall of the science center.
Carla Majczan, a local artist and art teacher at the Bethlehem Area School District, was chosen to work with the students on this project. She has been working with them for some time now, creating lesson plans for art and science that inspired them to produce boxes full of art and ideas. Carla then sorted through all of those boxes to create the final mural design, which is directly based on the children’s drawings and designs.
The mural, which will be 120 feet long, is set to be installed at the new science center in late May or early June. The center’s opening date is set for May 22. The kids are meeting Thursday morning in the gym at the Judith Chase Early Learning Center on Chew Street to start painting. It’s an exciting time for all involved as they bring their creative vision to life and add a unique touch to the new science center.
