Azzarello identified himself as an “investigative researcher” online and had been seen outside the court displaying a sign with his Substack account where he published his speeches. His message stated that he was ready to set himself on fire as an extreme form of protest to draw attention to what he believed was an urgent discovery – that the government was planning an apocalyptic and fascist global coup, which he called a “totalitarian swindle”. Despite acknowledging that his claims may seem like a conspiracy theory, he insisted there was proof to back them up.
The message further stated that the truth of post-truth America was a “rotten truth” that needed to be uncovered. Azzarello urged action from his friends, family, witnesses, and rescue personnel, apologizing for the pain his actions caused but asserting that it was necessary to expose the government’s intentions. He concluded by calling his actions an act of revolution based on the truth of his words.
