Normal Operations Continue: Sault Ste. Marie Hospital Addresses Nurses’ Strike

The administration at MyMichigan Sault acknowledges the start of the nurses strike outside MyMichigan Medical Center Sault. Despite the strike, they assure the community that inside the center, teams are working diligently with nurses from across the health system to cover for those on strike. The medical center successfully delivered a baby and handled three urgent operating room cases, proving their ability to continue providing quality care to the community.

The administration believes that their proposal to the Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) is fair and reasonable, recognizing the excellent care provided by nurses in Sault. Throughout negotiations, they made significant movements towards reaching an agreement with MNA. They highlight how unrealistic was MNA’s starting position, which originally asked for top of scale nurses to be paid $51.30 per hour in the first year alone. In contrast, MyMichigan’s offer steadily increased over time, showing their willingness to compromise. They also emphasize the benefits and incentives along with investments in systems like Epic that contribute to overall compensation package for nurses.

The administration stresses that they value and listen to their nurses and have proposed allowing them to vote on contract proposals. They reiterate their commitment to providing a safe and supportive working environment for their nurses while continuing to deliver high-quality care to patients in Sault.
