District 65 business manager to leave position after more than two decades

The Evanston/Skokie District 65 is facing a financial challenge after the resignation of its business manager and chief school business official, Kathy Zalewski. Zalewski has been with the district for over 23 years, starting in May 2001. Her departure will leave a gap in the district’s leadership, as she was responsible for managing the district’s finances and ensuring the smooth running of its schools.

Zalewski’s exit is just one of several departures that have occurred in District 65 over the past year. Former Superintendent Devon Horton, Dean of Culture and Climate Elijah Palmer, and others have also resigned from their positions. These departures have created a void in the district’s leadership and raised concerns about its ability to continue operations effectively.

The district is actively seeking replacements for these positions to ensure continuity in operations. However, finding suitable candidates may be challenging due to the ongoing pandemic and other factors that have disrupted traditional recruitment processes. The district has expressed its gratitude towards Zalewski for her contributions to District 65 over the years and wished her success in her future endeavors while assuring a smooth transition with her departure.

During a recent public hearing regarding the potential closure of Dr. Bessie Rhodes School of Global Studies, former board member Rebeca Mendoza expressed gratitude towards Zalewski for her two decades of service to District 65. Mendoza also voiced concerns about the financial future of the district given the upcoming departures of key personnel and the absence of continuity in planning process for new school initiatives.

Despite these challenges, District 65 is working with financial advisors to manage financial matters effectively during this transition period. The district has also implemented measures such as budget cuts and cost-cutting measures to ensure sustainability while navigating through this challenging time.

In conclusion, Kathy Zalewski’s resignation marks another significant challenge that District 65 is facing during this unprecedented time due to COVID-19 pandemic. However, it remains committed to providing quality education for its students while working towards finding suitable candidates to fill key positions left vacant by previous administrators’ resignations.
