Elizabeth Dekkers, World Championships Medalist, Sets New All Comers Record in 200 Fly with a Time of 2:05.20

Elizabeth Dekkers set a new All Comers Record in the 200m fly event at the 2024 Australian Open Championships, clocking in at 2:05.20. This was a new lifetime best for the 19-year-old swimmer, surpassing her previous record of 2:05.26 set in 2023. All Comers Records represent the fastest time ever recorded on Australian soil by any swimmer from any nation.

At the championships, Dekkers finished first, with Olympic medalist Brianna Throssell finishing as the runner-up with a time of 2:06.98, followed by Abbey Connor who took the bronze in 2:08.09. Despite setting a new record, Dekkers remains ranked third among Australian all-time performers in the 200m fly event, and 14th in the world. The upcoming Trials in June will determine Dekkers’ future ranking, as she currently holds the second spot in the world this season.

Dekkers has had an impressive career thus far and has achieved podium finishes at three international events. She won silver last year in Fukuoka with a time of 2:05.46, bronze at the 2022 Short Course World Championships with a time of 2:03.94, and gold at the 202
