New Haven’s First Chief Technology Officer: Michael Simeone and the Quest to Upgrade Tech Operations and Cybersecurity Measures

In the city of New Haven, Connecticut, Michael Simeone has been named as the first Chief Technology Officer. In his new role, Simeone will be responsible for overseeing all technology and technological resources for the city. He will also play a crucial role in decision-making processes and will develop strategies and growth plans for both the city and the Board of Education.

Simeone expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the city’s Chief Technology Officer and work alongside Mayor Elicker, Dr. Negrón, members of the Board of Education, and dedicated information technology employees. He looks forward to bringing his expertise in information technology and cyber security to manage the city’s day-to-day technology operations and support its efficiency goals while prioritizing the needs of New Haven residents.

One of Simeone’s key responsibilities is to collaborate with the mayor, superintendent, and their representatives to oversee IT staff members, manage technology budgets, supervise system quality assurance processes, and align technology goals across both entities. With over 25 years of executive IT management experience in finance, legal services, and state government, Simeone is well-equipped for this role. Recently he served as Chief Information Officer for Bendett & McHugh P.C., one of Connecticut’s largest law firms where he led a team of 24 IT professionals supporting national major financial institutions representation practice.

The appointment of Simeone comes at a crucial time for New Haven as they recover from an incident where $6 million was stolen from a compromised email account by fraudsters with $3.6 million recovered since then. Simeone aims to enhance technology management and security measures to prevent such incidents from happening again.

In conclusion, Michael Simeone’s appointment as New Haven’s first Chief Technology Officer is an important step towards improving technological infrastructure in the city while prioritizing cybersecurity measures that protect residents from potential threats
