Armand Duplantis shatters pole vault world record for eighth time, reaching 6.24 meters

In the season’s first Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, China, Armand Duplantis of Sweden set another world record in pole vaulting. At 24 years old, he has shown exceptional ease in pushing the limits of his sport and has already set a total of eight world records. During this event, he cleared the bar at 6.24 meters, making him the first person ever to achieve such a feat. His accomplishment further solidified his dominance as he cleared the bar 40 centimeters higher than his competitors on the night.

Meanwhile, Christian Coleman of the USA won the men’s 100 meters race with a time of 10.13 seconds, finishing just ahead of his compatriot Fred Kerley and Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake. In a tightly contested women’s 200 meters event, 19-year-old Torrie Lewis surprised everyone by taking her first Diamond League victory, beating out favorites like Sha’Carri Richardson of the USA and a late-charging Australian competitor.

With Paris Olympic Games not far away, Duplantis has expressed that he has not yet reached his full potential and is aiming to reach marks of 6.30 meters or higher and dominate in every competition he enters.
