In recent news, Newark Liberty International Airport has been named the world’s best new airport terminal by Skytrax, a leading global airport evaluation firm. The recognition came after Terminal A received a five-star rating from Skytrax following an assessment of its facilities, operations, and customer service. This award was presented at the Passenger Terminal Expo & Conference in Frankfurt, Germany, marking the second consecutive time that the Port Authority has received this accolade, with LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B winning in 2023.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy praised the recognition and called it a well-deserved honor for the ongoing renaissance at Newark Liberty International Airport. Skytrax evaluated Terminal A based on passenger surveys about terminal facilities, staff service, check-in, arrivals, transfers, security, customs, and shopping.
Terminal A opened in 2023 as a replacement for the 50-year-old former Terminal A. The new terminal cost $2.7 billion and represented the Port Authority’s largest-ever single investment in New Jersey and the state’s largest design-build project. The transformation of major airports in the New York and New Jersey metro area is part of a $30 billion project that will focus on redesigning Terminal B at Newark’s airport in its next phase.
This accolade highlights the Port Authority’s commitment to providing exceptional customer service and creating modern facilities for travelers. With two airports in North America receiving five-star ratings from Skytrax, it is clear that there is ongoing investment in improving air travel experiences across the region.
