Outstanding in the Classroom and on the Court: Texas Tech Women’s Basketball Stars Earn Academic Honors

Jasmine Shavers and Bailey Maupin, two outstanding women’s basketball players at Texas Tech, have recently earned academic honors in addition to their impressive performances on the court. Both athletes made the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team for the first time in their careers. Furthermore, they were also selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists and will advance to the national ballot for voting by CSC members.

Maupin and Shavers played key roles for the Lady Raiders this season, with Maupin starting every game and averaging 31.6 minutes per game. She led Texas Tech in scoring with 27 double-figure games and 102 assists. She also scored an average of 14.1 points per game and made 127 free throws with an impressive shooting percentage of 85.8 percent.

Maupin had a breakout season with four games of 20-plus points and recorded her first career double-double against Sam Houston. She led the team in scoring 12 times and assists 19 times throughout the season. During Big 12 play, Maupin averaged 13.3 points and 2.6 assists per game in all 18 contests.

Shavers also had an impressive season, leading the Lady Raiders in scoring with an average of 15.4 points per game.
