The Packers have decided to move Alex McGough from quarterback to wide receiver. McGough, a 28-year-old who spent the previous season on the team’s practice squad as the third quarterback behind Jordan Love and Sean Clifford, excelled in running receiver routes on the scout team. Packers coach Matt LaFleur commended McGough’s athleticism and expressed the team’s desire to give him a chance at wide receiver.
Despite selecting Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt in the seventh round of the draft, the Packers did not choose a receiver or sign one in free agency. However, with a crowded wide receiver room that includes Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Bo Melton, Malik Heath, Samori Toure, Grant DuBose, and Thyrick Pitts, McGough could contribute on special teams for the Packers as he has not yet played in an NFL regular-season game.
