In the upcoming 2024 general elections, Panama will see a new era of leadership as citizens head to the polls to elect their next president and vice president. Along with the election of these officials, they will also be choosing 20 deputies to the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) for a mandate from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2029.
This year’s elections are significant as it marks the seventh vote since the US invasion that ended the dictatorship of Manuel Antonio Noriega in 1989. With eight presidential candidates on the ballot, Panamanians have plenty of choices when it comes to who will lead them into the future.
The Electoral Court is estimating a participation rate of 80% of the registry for these elections. A total of 2,982 voting centers will be installed throughout Panama for voters to cast their ballots. This promises to be a significant electoral event, with major implications for the future of this important nation.
