Nick Lahm, Director of Operations at Piedmontese, revealed that the Lincoln warehouse was impacted by a tornado that hit the area on Friday. The warehouse sustained damages alongside Garner Industries and the derailing of train cars on Cornhusker Highway. Despite this, Lahm expressed gratitude that everyone remained safe and is working towards resuming business operations as soon as possible.
Lahm shared that he witnessed the tornado from a safe distance as it picked up vehicles and caused damage to the warehouse. Windows were blown out and common areas like the kitchen were affected. However, all workers had been moved to a brick office building for safety beforehand, ensuring their safety during the storm.
The priority for Lahm and his team was ensuring everyone’s well-being. While they had some guidance from tornado protocol, facing the storm firsthand was still an overwhelming experience. Despite their readiness, they were caught off guard by the unexpected proximity of the tornado to their location.
During the storm, one driver was out on routes but managed to return home safely. The warehouse lost power temporarily, prompting workers to relocate inventory to a refrigerated area until power was restored by Lincoln Electric Systems. Workers cannot fully resume their duties until contractors and USDA confirm the facility’s safety.
