India’s Next Captain: Promising Batter Overlooked for T20 World Cup, not Hardik Pandya or Shubman Gill

Shreyas Iyer has been recognized for his talent and leadership skills by former BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad, despite missing out on a central contract from the board due to not playing domestic cricket while not on national duty. According to Prasad, Iyer was being groomed to become a future captain of the Indian cricket team.

Despite not playing domestic cricket, Iyer impressed selectors with his performance as captain of the India A side, winning eight out of ten series during his tenure. His captaincy abilities were noticed early on, making him a top contender for the India captaincy post alongside Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, it was Iyer who stood out as a potential captain.

Prasad also praised Iyer’s growth as a leader during his stint as captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The selectors saw potential in Iyer’s leadership skills and hope to see him excel in the role in the future. With KKR providing him with valuable team management experience, Prasad believes that Iyer is on his way to evolving into a successful captain in the coming years.
