Scarlett Johansson in discussions for lead role in upcoming ‘Jurassic World’ film

Scarlett Johansson is set to star in Universal’s upcoming Jurassic World movie, which is scheduled for release on July 2, 2025. The film will be directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp, with Edwards taking over after David Leitch left the project shortly after joining.

Johansson has a successful track record in franchises, having previously starred as Black Widow in various Marvel Studios films, including the Avengers series. However, she has also established herself in other projects and received two Oscar nominations for her roles in Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit. In addition to this new Jurassic World movie, she is also set to voice a character in the upcoming animated feature Transformers One and will appear in a big-budget Apple feature alongside Channing Tatum, both of which are scheduled for release this year.

The Jurassic World franchise has been ongoing for 30 years since its first film, Steven Spielberg’s 1993 hit film Jurassic Park. This was followed by a sequel, The Lost World, directed by Spielberg in 1997 and Jurassic Park III helmed by Joe Johnston. Universal revived the franchise with Jurassic World in 2015 and was a major box office success grossing $1.67 billion. The most recent trilogy of films was led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard under the direction of filmmaker Colin Trevorrow.
