U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Hardy County Health Department in Moorefield, which is set to open in 2023. The project, funded by Senator Capito in 2023, aims to provide medical services, expand food service options and educational opportunities for the growing community.
Capito emphasized that Hardy County, a rapidly expanding area in West Virginia, is a vital part of the state’s future. The project is the result of a collaborative effort between federal, state and local levels. The new health department will address the community’s health needs, provide food service options and educational opportunities to residents of Hardy County.
Mallie Combs, Executive Director of the Hardy County Rural Development Authority commended Senator Capito for her unwavering support and understanding of community needs. She expressed appreciation for Senator Capito’s presence at the groundbreaking ceremony and highlighted that her partnership has been instrumental in developing Hardy County.
In May 2023, Senator Capito secured a $474,000 loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Grant Program to contribute to the construction of the new health facility in Moorefield. This funding will play a crucial role in bringing this project to fruition and improving healthcare services and educational opportunities available in Hardy County.
Senator Capito stated that she was proud to be supporting this initiative and anticipated its positive impact on the region.
