In honor of writer and activist Jane Jacobs, who dedicated her life to building up communities, Ellsworth, Maine will be participating in Jane’s Walk for the third year. The event will take place on Saturday, joining over 500 cities worldwide in coming together to walk.
The goal of Jane’s Walk is to encourage people to engage with their neighborhoods and develop a sense of pride for where they live and work. In Ellsworth, there are two walks scheduled for Saturday: the first focusing on nature and the second centered around historical Ellsworth.
The first walk will start at 10:00 a.m. at the River Walk North trail head behind the Ellsworth Public Library. The second walk, which will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Old Burial Grounds on State Street, is being organized by Heart of Ellsworth in partnership with GrowSmart Maine and the Ellsworth Historical Society.
Participants are encouraged to register for the walks on the Heart of Ellsworth website to find more information and get involved in the community event. By bringing people together to explore and learn about their surroundings, a sense of community pride and connection will be fostered. Through engaging with neighbors and the local environment, participants can develop a deeper appreciation for the place they call home.
