Rediance secures worldwide sales for “The Falling Sky” at Directors Fortnight

Rediance, a prominent international sales agent with its headquarters in China, has secured the worldwide distribution rights for the feature documentary “The Falling Sky.” The film will make its global premiere at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival in May.

Directed by Eryk Rocha and Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha, “The Falling Sky” explores the lives of the Amazonian Yanomami people. The documentary is based on the book of the same name by Yanomami shaman Davi Kopenawa and French anthropologist Bruce Albert. The movie showcases the unique cultural practices of the Yanomami people through their participation in a funeral rite known as reahu.

Through stunning visuals, intricate sound design, and deep insights from Davi Kopenawa, “The Falling Sky” critiques the destruction of Yanomami culture caused by outsiders’ intrusion into their territory. It delves into their cosmology and highlights the importance of their knowledge to viewers around the world.

Rocha is no stranger to Cannes, having won L’Oeil d’Or Award for “Cinema Novo” in 2016. Carneiro da Cunha is a Brazilian artist, theater director, performer, filmmaker, and environmental art activist with extensive experience working in South America. They have previously collaborated on films such as “Edna” and a collection of short films directed by Yanomami filmmakers.

Produced by Aruac Filmes and co-produced by Hutukara Associação Yanomami and Stemal Entertainment with Rai Cinema, “The Falling Sky” offers an intimate look at the lives of the Yanomami people in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest. Rediance will also be handling Chinese-speaking territories for another project at Cannes – “Grand Tour,” directed by Miguel Gomes – which is screening in competition for Best Picture.
