The Under-18 Men’s World Championship: Team USA Wins Silver

Canada scored a power play goal in the second period to cut the U.S.’s lead from 3-0 to 2-1. The U.S. regained its two-goal advantage with a goal by Hutson, assisted by Vansaghi and Skahan, with seven minutes left in the period.

In the third period, Kempf made a crucial save on a back-door attempt by Canada’s captain, keeping the U.S. within one goal. McKenna then scored again to tie the game at 3-3 with just over nine minutes remaining. Canada quickly took a 5-3 lead with two quick goals on a major power play.

The U.S. managed to pull within one goal with a goal from Zeimer with just over four minutes left in the third period, but McKenna sealed the win for Canada with an empty-net goal in the final seconds of the game.

Hutson was named Team USA’s player of the game, while Hagens was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and received the Directorate Award for Best Forward as well as being named to Media All-Star Team along with Hutson who also received Directorate Award for Best Defender. The U.S outshot Canada 35-25 and scored one goal on four power play opportunities
