US Congress Passes Law Targeting Anti-Semitism on US College Campuses

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators clashed violently with counter-protesters at a rally at UCLA University in Los Angeles. Firecrackers and tear gas were among the items thrown during the confrontations. Dozens of protesters tried to break down the safety rail and plywood barrier surrounding the pro-Palestinian encampment.

Reports from the UCLA student newspaper stated that supporters of Israel had forcibly removed pro-Palestinian tents and engaged in confrontations with demonstrators. The mayor of Los Angeles intervened by issuing a statement condemning the violence and urging calm. The police were immediately dispatched to UCLA University to maintain order amidst ongoing clashes.

Meanwhile, at Brown University, students agreed to vacate their protest camp in exchange for a vote on the diversion of investments from companies associated with Israel. The university president expressed appreciation for the students’ efforts to prevent further escalation of the situation and encouraged them to continue working towards peace and understanding between Palestinians and Israelis.
