The Medi-Gators program offers students chances to shadow health professionals and explore careers – News

Nicole Hernandez, an undergraduate biochemistry student at UF, recently had the opportunity to virtually shadow healthcare professionals as part of the Medi-Gators shadowing program. The experience strengthened her resolve to continue on the pre-med track and develop essential communication skills for success in the healthcare field.

Hernandez, who is set to graduate in May 2024 and plans to apply to medical school after taking a gap year, was actively involved in the program, serving on the events committee and as a student ambassador. Through Medi-Gators, she gained valuable exposure and experiences in the healthcare field and was able to explore various career options available in this challenging industry.

Medi-Gators aims to provide mentorship to its members and offer insights into different paths they can take in their pursuit of a medical career. Hernandez found it eye-opening to see how teams work together and how they develop essential communication skills for success. Overall, her experience with Medi-Gators has been instrumental in helping her navigate her future career path in medicine.
