The Wachusett and St. Paul baseball teams faced off in a doubleheader at Tivnan Field in Worcester, Mass., on Monday. The two teams have a long-standing rivalry and this doubleheader added another chapter to it. In the first game, the Wachusett team emerged victorious with a final score of 6-5 after nine innings.
Wachusett got an early lead, scoring single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to go up 3-0. However, St. Paul fought back and tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Colon Kreuz had an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. The decisive run came in the top of the ninth when Caden Lane scored for Wachusett.
In terms of individual performances, Ethan DiVito hit a home run for Wachusett while Nate Roy had a strong showing going 3-4 with three RBI. Colon Kreuz led the Knights with a 3-3 performance at the plate. Both starting pitchers, Matt Moreno for Wachusett and Nick Fennucio for St. Paul, put up tough performances on the mound during the game.
The second game was also closely contested as both teams played well throughout it but unfortunately ended in a tie as neither team could come out on top.
Overall, it was an exciting day of baseball at Tivnan Field as two rivals faced off in a doubleheader that left fans on edge until the very end.
It is worth noting that despite their rivalry on the field, both teams have shown respect and sportsmanship towards each other throughout their series against one another.
With this being just another chapter to their rivalry history books, fans eagerly await their next meeting which is already scheduled for next week at Tivnan Field again
