From a young age, Bryan Patrick from New Bern, North Carolina, has been fascinated by letters. This passion eventually led him to write his first book at the age of four. Now, he is setting his sights on becoming the world’s youngest author by submitting his book to the Guinness Book of World Records.
Bryan’s parents, both educators themselves, have been supportive of his love for letters and words. They have encouraged his obsession with spelling advanced words like “axolotl” and even took him to the Alphabet Museum. Together with them, they created an alphabet garden in their backyard where each letter corresponds to a specific plant. What started as a simple interest has now become a passion project for the whole family.
Despite being only four years old, Bryan has already demonstrated skills beyond his age group. He can read fluently and knows all the letter sounds. He can count and has even grasped concepts like multiplication and division – skills that are typically taught to older children. His mother mentioned that they are now figuring out an appropriate grade level for Bryan due to his advanced abilities, which have largely been self-taught.
Every night, Bryan diligently worked on typing out the alphabet on the computer, gradually progressing to sentences and eventually completing an entire book within just one month. In order to achieve the title of world’s youngest author, he must sell 1000 copies of his book. Bryan is determined to break the current record held by Saeed Rashed AlMheiri, another four-year-old author who wrote a children’s book about dinosaurs called “Dino Dig.”
The Patrick family is hosting a book launch party in New Bern on May 2nd to support Bryan in his quest for this prestigious title. The event will feature games and activities related to letters and words as well as refreshments for attendees.
