Waha Oil awards Zulal Water Technology contract for 900m³ drinking water treatment plant

Zulal Water Technology (ZWT) has recently been awarded an Engineering, Procurement, Installation & Commissioning (EPIC) contract by Libya’s Waha Oil Company (WOC) to construct a drinking water treatment plant at Dahra Oil Field. The project is highly specialized and requires significant technical expertise due to the unique challenges posed by the water at Dahra Field.

The water at Dahra Field is particularly difficult to treat due to its high salinity levels (TDS > 21000ppm), comparable to sea water, as well as high levels of H2S and iron. To address these challenges, ZWT underwent a competitive procurement process and detailed technical evaluation by Waha before being awarded the contract.

The new plant will be completed on a full turnkey basis and will include pre-treatment, H2S degassing, iron and colloids removal, RO desalination, post-treatment, and the supply of dosing chemicals. ZWT has previously completed five similar plants for WOC using Lenntech technology.

Iftikhar ul Haq, Director of ZWT, expressed his confidence in his team’s ability to provide an optimal solution for this challenging project despite the difficulties in designing a suitable plant for the unique challenges of Dahra well-water. He emphasized that ZWT’s 35+ years of experience in completing over 100 water treatment projects in Libya showcases their expertise in the field.
