Blinken urges Washington and Beijing to handle their differences “with responsibility”

During his second visit to China in less than a year, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the importance of managing differences between the United States and China responsibly. He began his trip in Shanghai, where he attended a basketball match and walked along the Bund promenade.

As he prepares for meetings in Beijing, Blinken will discuss issues such as trade practices, military assistance to Taiwan, and concerns about China’s support for Russia’s rearmament efforts. The goal of his visit is to ease tensions between the world’s two largest economies and address various sources of friction in their relationship.

During his meetings in Shanghai, Blinken stressed the need for direct engagement and dialogue between the two countries to address their differences. He met with local Chinese leaders and discussed the importance of American companies in the local economy. At New York University in Shanghai, Blinken spoke with students and expressed his hope for increased cultural exchange between the two countries.
