The World Triathlon Championship Series, in collaboration with the Local Organising Committee and Triathlon Canada, has announced the cancellation of the 2024 World Triathlon Championship Series and Mixed Relay Series Montreal events. Originally scheduled to take place on 14-15 September, these events have been a regular part of the Championship Series since 2017 and their absence in 2024 will be keenly felt. However, there is some good news for triathlon enthusiasts as the World Triathlon Para Series Montreal, set for 29 June, will proceed as planned.
In response to the cancellation of the Montreal events, the World Triathlon Cup Wehai, previously scheduled for 27 September, has been upgraded to a WTCS event. This event will now serve as the fifth stop in the 2024 Series thanks to the China Triathlon Sports Association for stepping up as hosts. Due to last-minute cancellations, such as WTCS Abu Dhabi in March 2024, points for the championship series will only be awarded at four remaining series events: WTCS Yokohama, WTCS Cagliari, WTCS Hamburg and WTCS Weihai. Points will also be granted at Continental Championships, Paris 2024 Olympic Games and Championship Finals Torremolinos-Andalucia. The athletes with the highest points accumulated from three of these six events plus Continental Championships and Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be crowned as world champions of triathlons in year 20
