On April 15, 2024, a group of staff members from the Camden County Health Department gathered under a bright sun on a newly cleared plot of land in Kingsland to celebrate the groundbreaking of their new health department building. The ceremony marked the beginning of a collaborative effort to enhance health department operations and accessibility by providing a more modern structure that can house clinical and environmental health services in one location.
Key stakeholders were present at the event, including representatives from the Coastal Health District, Camden Board of Health, Southeast Georgia Health System, the State, and the cities of Kingsland, St. Marys, and Woodbine. Their support will ensure the successful completion of the project.
The project cost for the new Camden County Health Department is over $5.38 million. Funding for the project is coming from various sources including Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VIII, Community Development Block Grant COVID (CDBG-CV), the Coastal Health District, and the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Additionally, land for the new facility was generously donated by Southeast Georgia Health System.
