On Friday, Columbia College faced off against Stephens College in a doubleheader. After a recent loss to Williams Baptist University, the Cougars were determined to bounce back. In the first game, Jazlin Gottman’s single in the second inning resulted in two RBIs and put the Cougars ahead 2-0. However, it wasn’t until the sixth inning that the Cougars really picked up steam, scoring two more runs off of Emma Bruno’s hit to right field. Ultimately, the Cougars secured a 4-0 victory in the first game.
Despite their early lead, momentum shifted in the second game as Stephens College dominated the third inning and took a 2-0 lead. Elise Kendrick’s hit drove in two runs and was followed by three more singles that brought the score to 6-2 by the sixth inning. The Cougers made a valiant effort to come back with Gottman’s timely single resulting in 2 RBIs but they fell short of a sweep as Stephens College emerged victorious with a final score of 6-4.
