Clifford Omoruyi, a standout shot-blocker, moves to Alabama from Rutgers

The University of Alabama recently added another standout player to its roster for the 2024-25 season, strengthening its lineup with the transfer of Clifford Omoruyi from Rutgers. Ranked as the No. 13 player in CBS Sports’ Transfer Rankings, Omoruyi is known for his shot-blocking abilities, having recorded 93 blocks before the NCAA Tournament.

Over his four seasons at Rutgers, Omoruyi started in 104 games and averaged 10.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in 26 minutes per game. His arrival marks the fourth transfer that Alabama’s head coach Nate Oats and his staff have added this offseason, joining Aden Holloway from Auburn, Chris Youngblood from USF, and Houston Mallette from Pepperdine.

The Crimson Tide will have to adjust to the departure of six players from their Final Four roster from the previous season, including Mohamed Wague, Nick Pringle, and Sam Walters. However, with these new additions and the No. 2 recruiting class from the 2024 cycle featuring top talents like five-star center Derrion Reid, four-star forward Aiden Sherrell, four-star guard Labaron Philon, and four-star forward Naas Cunningham, Alabama is set up for a strong campaign in the upcoming season as they aim to build on their recent success.
