The team was hopeful for a productive day on Sol 2256, with plans to drill on Mars and collect science data. However, when they arrived at the workspace, they found it unsuitable for drilling once again. Despite two failed attempts, the team remained optimistic and set their sights on a new target known as “Region C.”
During the science block on Sol 2256, ChemCam data was collected on targets “Sandy Haven” and “Tarness Haven,” while a Mastcam multispectral mosaic was taken to assess color variations. Additionally, the environmental group monitored the atmosphere with Navcam observations, including a line of sight image and a dust devil movie.
As Curiosity began its drive towards Region C, planned stops were made for Mastcam and Navcam imaging to assess the terrain along the way. Once arriving at the final parking spot, additional images were taken to determine if drilling at Region C was feasible or if the search for suitable drilling locations would continue.
Despite facing challenges in finding a suitable drilling location on Mars, the team remained optimistic that their third attempt would be successful. Stay tuned for updates on their progress!
