The science team at Hallaig wasted no time in their investigation of a potential drill target, “Broad Cairn,” located on a bright block within the clay-bearing unit. This spot promised to reveal high levels of potassium (K), which the team confirmed through the use of the dust removal tool (DRT) and close-up images captured with the MAHLI camera.
To ensure high-quality data collection, an APXS integration was scheduled at the optimal time of day. In order to prioritize the swift return of data, the team postponed other science observations for the next planning sol. With anticipation mounting, they now eagerly await the results of their investigation at “Broad Cairn.”
The success of this mission hinges on the discovery of high potassium levels, offering potential insights into the composition and history of this Martian landscape.
