Fleet Week has returned to South Florida this year, with the U.S. military choosing Miami as its destination. The week of events kicked off at the Frost Museum of Science on Sunday with a free performance by the U.S. Navy Band and opportunities for attendees to meet sailors and Marines, as well as witness K-9 training demonstrations.
As Dr. Cassie Freund, director of science communication at Frost Science, expressed her excitement about having the Navy in Miami for Fleet Week, she highlighted the importance of their presence in a city located on the ocean. She also noted that the Navy’s participation in showcasing different types of science was valuable.
More than 3,000 members of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard are participating in Fleet Week in South Florida this year. The Navy has brought four ships to PortMiami for the event, making it a special occasion for both the military and the local community. This marks the first time in a long while that Fleet Week has taken place in Miami, adding to its uniqueness and importance for all involved.
