Fortissimo to Launch China Sports Film ‘Wild Punch’

Fortissimo Films, a leading international film distributor, has announced that they will be handling the international rights to Momo Pictures’ latest Chinese sports film “Wild Punch”. Directed by Yu Lik-wai and Wang Jing, the film is a sports and action drama that follows the story of a mixed martial arts athlete who is past his prime and competing against his young and talented trainee.

Yu Lik-wai, one of the directors of the film, has worked on several feature films including titles like “Love Will Tear Us Apart” and “Plastic City”. He is also known for his work as a cinematographer on films by renowned directors such as Jia Zhangke, Lou Ye, and Ann Hui. The film will be launched in territories outside mainland China at the Cannes Market next week.

Produced by Momo Pictures, a subsidiary of the NASDAQ-listed Zhiwen Group, “Wild Punch” is the latest addition to their portfolio of films. The company has previously produced films like “The Best Is Yet to Come”, “A Long Shot”, and “The Boy who Counted Cars”. This venture marks the first collaboration between Momo Pictures and Fortissimo Films.

In addition to “Wild Punch”, Fortissimo Films has recently announced that they will be handling sales for other Chinese films like Shen Jie’s “The Umbrella Fairy”, Feng Xiaogang’s “If You Are the One 3”, and Xu Haofeng’s “100 Yards”. The company has a track record of promoting cutting edge Chinese animation like “Deep Sea” by Tian Xiaopeng.
