Government promises continuation of “Perpi-Rungis” new produce train despite CGT’s disbelief

The relaunch of the early produce train at the Rungis market in Val-de-Marne is once again a priority for the State, as announced by Minister of Transport Patrice Vergriete. The decision comes after concerns were raised about the future of this rail service, which transports fruits and vegetables from various regions to the Rungis market in Perpignan.

The early morning train is a crucial link in transporting fresh produce from different regions to the Rungis market. It reduces the number of trucks on the roads by around 80 and saves 44 tonnes of CO2 emissions daily. However, during off-peak periods, it takes a break and does not operate.

The announcement made by Minister Vergriete aims to ensure continuity of this rail service and reduce its environmental impact. The call for expressions of interest is an initiative to ensure that the early produce train continues to operate as a vital link in sustainable transportation systems.

Overall, this decision underscores the importance of sustainable transportation systems and reducing carbon footprint in our daily lives.
