Growth of Homeless Encampment Troubling Boulder Highway Business

Local businesses on Boulder Highway in Las Vegas are concerned about the growing homeless encampment near the intersection of Boulder Highway and Russell Road. The privately owned lots have become a source of frustration for these businesses, with customers reporting harassment, begging for money, and theft from nearby stores.

FlowerEve Gift and Home Owner Evelyn Guin reports that the homeless individuals in the area have negatively impacted her business and deterred customers from visiting. Meanwhile, Gerald, the Maintenance and Security Manager at Duck Creek RV Park across the highway from Guin’s shop, acknowledges the problem but is uncertain of how to solve it. Metro’s Homeless Outreach Team has been offering resources to those in need, but many individuals have declined assistance.

As a result, law enforcement officers must work with Clark County Code Enforcement and property owners to address the issue. Officer Baron Bybee from Metro’s Homeless Outreach Team emphasizes the importance of conducting cleanups while also offering resources to those in need. Business owners are encouraged to stay proactive and contact either Southeast Area Command or Metro’s Homeless Outreach Team for assistance.

However, efforts to reach out to lot owners for their plans moving forward have not been successful. The situation remains a challenge for local businesses and law enforcement as they work to address the growing homeless encampment along Boulder Highway in Las Vegas.
