The Momentum Center, a local nonprofit with locations in Grand Haven and Holland, was recently recognized as a Hometown Health Hero by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Barbara Lee VanHorssen, the director of the Momentum Center, accepted the award on behalf of the organization in Lansing. The center provides a supportive environment for youth over age 11 and adults with mental illness, addiction, and disabilities. They offer a variety of social and recreational activities, classes, events, and meals, allowing members to interact without fear of stigma or stereotypes.

The organization was nominated by Cindy Anderson, a resident of Grand Haven. In addition to the Momentum Center, the Ottawa County Migrant Health Task Force also received an honorable mention for their contributions to promoting health within the community.
