Georgia College & State University hosts 7th Annual Elementary Science and Engineering Fair for K-5 students

The 7th Annual Science and Engineering Fair at Georgia College & State University drew a record-breaking number of participants, with over 400 students from across the state attending. This marked the largest group of elementary school students to participate in the event since its inception six years ago. Representatives from more than 100 school districts were present at the fair, showcasing their students’ impressive projects that wowed the judges.

John Trombley, a Senior Chemistry Lecturer at GCSU and a judge at the fair, praised the high quality of projects presented by the bright young minds. With so many outstanding projects on display, it was challenging for judges to select winners. Catrena Lisse, Director of the Science Education Center at GCSU and also the fair organizer, emphasized the importance of nurturing children’s curiosity and self-confidence through events like this one. She expressed optimism about the future, highlighting the potential of these students to become future scientists, doctors, and agents at Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

Lisse stressed that supporting and encouraging children from a young age to pursue interests in science and technology is crucial for their growth and development. Approximately 70 projects were completed by middle Georgia students, showcasing a wide range of innovative ideas and scientific inquiry. These young scientists demonstrated an impressive level of creativity and critical thinking skills that will undoubtedly serve them well in their future careers.
