Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Mong Diep and her team at Quy Nhon University have successfully developed two new recombinant hormones, eCG (equine Chorionic Gonadotropin) and hFSH (human Follicle Stimulating Hormone), for fertility treatment. These hormones offer a single-chain solution that supports the entire reproductive process with just one injection. The team completed the production process, including design, plasmid amplification, expression on cells, purification, biological activity analysis in the laboratory, and testing on mammalian models.
In November 2020, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Mong Diep and her research group received funding from Vingroup Innovation Fund (VINIF) for the project “Production of single-chain gonadotropins for fertility treatment.” By April 2024, they successfully launched two hormones that have been shown to be biologically effective and require only a single injection for the entire treatment process. The development of these recombinant single-chain hormones addresses challenges in producing natural gonadotropin hormones due to hygiene and ethical issues.
The research conducted by Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Mong Diep has the potential to revolutionize assisted reproductive techniques by providing a more effective and accessible solution. The development of these hormones offers a sustainable and cost-effective solution for infertility treatment in humans and reproduction control in animals. The research has high commercialization potential and can contribute to advancing Vietnam’s biotechnology sector.
Dr. Huynh Gia Bao, an expert in in vitro fertilization (IVF) techniques, hopes that the research project on recombinant hormones will help improve accessibility and reduce treatment costs for Vietnamese patients, especially those in remote areas. With the potential for practical applications implemented by the Vietnamese people, this research project could expand opportunities for infertile couples to have children.
