Chinese flying vehicle company EHang has partnered with fast charging specialist Guangzhou Greater Bay Technology (GBT) to develop Ultra Fast Charging (UFC) and Extreme Fast Charging (XFC) battery solutions for electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL). These batteries will only take a few minutes to charge from 30% to 80%, marking a significant advancement in the field of personal mobility.
The partnership between EHang and GBT aims to reduce charging times and establish a solid foundation for efficient, large-scale commercial operations in the low-range economy. They will work together to develop battery solutions and energy storage systems that meet the high standards set by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). This includes high energy density, high cycle life, high instantaneous charge-discharge rates, and high safety.
One of the key components of the eVTOL is the battery system, which affects flight range, stability, safety, and operational efficiency. The new UFC/XFC battery will focus on fast charging, high energy density, and longevity, with the ability to charge from 30% to 80% in just 5 – 10 minutes.
