Ann Mayers, a 74-year-old Ohio woman from Hamilton, robbed a bank despite having no criminal history. On April 19, she walked into an AurGroup Credit Union office in Fairfield Township, showed her gun, and demanded money. Wearing a face mask, she left with only $500 stolen. The police quickly tracked her down at her home a few kilometers away, where they found the stolen firearm in her car.
Mayers confessed immediately when arrested, admitting to the robbery. However, it is unclear how Mayers fell victim to online scams herself. Her family revealed that she had sent money to an unidentified person before the robbery. Despite potentially being a victim, Mayers chose to solve her problem by committing a robbery. Her family members were aware of her plan but did not take her intention seriously.
It is not clear why Mayers decided to rob the bank or how she obtained the firearm used in the crime. She is currently held in Butler County Jail in Ohio and is seeking a pro bono lawyer due to inability to afford one.
