In 2023, the emirate welcomed over 1.5 million hotel guests, representing an 11% increase from the previous year. This growth highlights the sustainable development of tourism in Sharjah and positions the emirate as a leading tourist destination globally.
During a press conference at the Arabian Travel Market 2024 in Dubai, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority unveiled key components of the tourism sector in Sharjah. The Authority highlighted projects such as Al Badayer Development and Organization project, Mleiha National Park, Kalba Hanging Gardens, and Al Hafiya Lake to enhance Sharjah’s tourism offerings and accommodate the growing number of guests. These initiatives demonstrate Sharjah’s commitment to sustainable growth in the sector while providing visitors with diverse cultural and natural assets to explore.
Khaled Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, emphasized Sharjah’s position as a preferred tourist destination during his speech at the exhibition. He highlighted how tourism positively impacts Sharjah’s economy and job market while stressing the importance of sustainable development and innovation in enhancing competitiveness globally.
The Sharjah Pavilion showcased interactive experiences that allowed visitors to explore different environments virtually through virtual tours while participating in sports like kayaking. The pavilion also offered insights into Sharjah’s cultural heritage through virtual reality technology. This immersive showcase aimed to highlight Sharjah’s diverse cultural and natural assets, emphasizing its rich offerings for visitors.
