Tampa Tarpons, the Yankees’ Single-A affiliate, announced that infielder Oswald Peraza will begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday during a doubleheader against Clearwater. The 23-year-old had been sidelined from game action for the past eight weeks after experiencing discomfort in his right shoulder during spring training, leading to a subscapular strain and his shutdown.
Despite Peraza’s imminent return, Manager Aaron Boone stated that the infielder still has a significant amount of time before being activated. According to Boone, Peraza will need to go through a full spring training of games to prepare, which means he will likely have a few more weeks of rehab ahead of him.
Peraza began throwing again in early April and has played in 70 games for the Yankees over the past two seasons, posting a batting line of .216/.298/.306 with three home runs, 11 doubles, 16 RBI, and 23 runs scored.
