Taylor Pendrith clinches first victory at CJ Cup Byron Nelson with a two-shot swing on the final hole

At the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in McKinney, Texas, Taylor Pendrith won his first PGA Tour title. It was a close battle with Ben Kohles, who had taken the lead with birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. However, Kohles stumbled on the final hole by bogeying after hitting his second shot into the rough. This allowed Pendrith to capitalize and secure the victory with a two-putt birdie on the 18th for a 4-under 67 and a total score of 23-under 261.

Kohles finished just behind Pendrith with a final round of 66 and missed a crucial putt on the 18th that would have forced a playoff. Alex Noren finished in third place with a score of 21 under, impressing the crowd with his tee shot to 2 1/2 feet on the par-3 17th. Other players at the top of the leaderboard included Aaron Rai, Matt Wallace, S.H. Kim, and Byeong Hun An, all finishing at or better than 20 under.

Pendrith’s victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson was significant as it came in his 74th start on Tour. The tournament saw several lead changes throughout the day between Pendrith and Kohles as they battled it out for supremacy. Jake Knapp, who had led after two rounds, finished at just below their pace with a final round of 70 for a total score of nearly as good as theirs but not quite enough to win.

Overall, it was an exciting and competitive tournament that culminated in thrilling fashion with Pendrith’s last-minute victory over Kohles on what could have been his first Tour win if not for his late mistakes.
