Top spring sports performers in Somerset County from April 22-27

On Monday, the Northern Cambria baseball team defeated Conemaugh Township 3-2 in a thrilling game. D.J. Bambino had two hits, while Zack Petree and Colin Dinyar each contributed a hit and an RBI for Conemaugh Township. Despite Larry Weaver’s strong pitching performance, allowing two earned runs over six innings and striking out seven, the team could not secure the win.

In softball action, Shade dominated Forbes Road in a doubleheader. In Game 1, Kaylee Jamison and Lowen Mincek led the Panthers with two hits and three RBIs each in a 15-0 victory. Tara Corradini excelled in both offense and defense, doubling twice and scoring three runs while allowing just one hit. The Panthers continued their success in Game 2 with a 20-0 win in three innings. Corradini went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Payton Maddy contributed three hits, including two doubles, and three runs scored. Jaedyn Krupper was stellar in the circle, allowing just one hit.

Elsewhere, Berlin Brothersvalley defeated Ferndale 14-1 in five innings with Coral Prosser hitting a grand slam and Elena Ritchey and Taylor Hillegass homering. Sydney Walker had a strong performance with three hits and three RBIs, along with allowing just one run on one hit over five innings. In a non-conference matchup, Meyersdale fell to Allegany 2-0 with Marcella Dupre recording the lone hit for the Red Raiders, and Izabella Donaldson pitching admirably.

In tennis action, Somerset swept Windber in a doubleheader with the Golden Eagles earning two 5-0 victories over Windber’s Green Knights squad on Monday night at Somerset High School’s tennis courts . The first match was played on clay courts as Cornelius Grau from Somerset won his singles match against Windber’s Tyler Snyder by sets of 6 -3;6 -3;7-6(9). Grau also partnered up with Tanner Wassilchalk to win their doubles match against Snyder’s partner John Paul Smith by sets of 6 -4;6 -3;7-5 (7). The second set was played on hard courts as Kai Petrosky from Somerset won his singles match against Windber’s Ethan Shaffer by sets of 6 -4;7 -5(8);8-5 while Petrosky also teamed up with Declan Egal to win their doubles match against Shaffer’s partner Owen Difebo by sets of 6 -2;7-5(8);8(-3) after being down two points in third set tiebreaker , which gave them an overall advantage of 11 –9 over their opponents .
